Empowering Women of Color Facing Intimate Partner Violence is October 28 Presentation

“Empowering Women of Color: Navigating Intimate Partner Violence Through an Intersectional Lens,” will begin at 6:30 p.m. October 28 in the Student Success Center at St. Augustine at ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½×îаæÏÂÔØ University and via . The event will delve into the unique experiences of women of color who face intimate partner violence.

The is hosting the presentation as part of October’s Wellness Month and Domestic Violence Awareness Month. 

Dr. Michelle Martinez, psychology adjunct professor at , will discuss how race, gender, and other marginalized identities intersect to create distinct challenges for women of color experiencing abuse.

Martinez will explore topics such as cultural stigma, racial discrimination, economic disparities, and mistrust in law enforcement and legal systems. By examining how these factors compound the trauma of intimate partner violence, the presentation will emphasize the need for culturally competent services and an intersectional approach to supporting survivors.
