ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½×îаæÏÂÔØ University senior Lexi Austring of Standish, Maine, is spending her spring semester processing, organizing, and transcribing hand written letters from World War II as part of the Lockport Woman’s Club/Pat Darin Internship.

“It is really exciting that the Lockport Woman’s Club has this internship opportunity to preserve local culture and give college students a chance to work in an archive,” said Austring.

Also, Austring is working on the student photo exhibit on the Old Joliet Prison on view in National Trust for Historic Preservation’s Gaylord Building historic site. That is in addition to digitizing a portion of the materials in the Adelmann Regional History Collection.

“I am grateful for this opportunity to study local history,” she said. “I am able to draw on my studies in Political Science, Paralegal Studies, and Philosophy of Law. I hope also to expand my organizational and time management skills.”

Dennis H. Cremin, Director and Professor of History, commented, “Lexi is the seventh Lockport Woman’s Club/Pat Darin intern. I am so thankful to the club for their ongoing support. As for Lexi, she is an excellent student and has interest in the non-profits. She is also a campus leader as her work with the Mediation team, University Ministry, and as a Resident Assistant demonstrate.”
