Award Winning Historian Nikki Brown Speaks on November 12

The ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½×îаæÏÂÔØ University History Department is honored to present Nikki Brown, associate professor of History, as the Storie Family Endowed Lecturer. Brown earned her doctorate from Yale University and teaches American and African American history at the University of Kentucky. An award-winning author, she will speak on the “Afro-Turks and Black Consciousness in the Middle East.” The Afro-Turks are descendants of enslaved people from eastern Africa in the Ottoman Empire between 1860 and 1923. Dr. Brown will present on the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½×îаæÏÂÔØ University campus on November 12 at 2:00pm in AS 158A with a reception to follow.

“We are excited to have Dr. Brown speak on campus. She explores the themes of gender, race, identity, and politics. She brings together topics that center around World War I that are actively being discussed with our students. I’m looking forward to our students, faculty, and community members to meet her,” said James Tallon, associate professor of History.
