Lockport Woman’s Club funds student internship

The ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½×îаæÏÂÔØ University History Center: Urban, Cultural and Catholic History of the Upper Midwest is pleased to announce the Pat Darin/Lockport Woman’s Club Internship. The internship is directed towards an outstanding student from ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½×îаæÏÂÔØ University with interest in local history. The internship is named in honor of Pat Darin, a long time volunteer at the Will County Historical Society and a member of the Lockport Woman’s Club.

Chelsea DeRose of Naperville has been working as part of the internship at the Will County Historical Society this semester. She is planning to give a presentation at an upcoming meeting of the Lockport Woman’s Club on her work. DeRose is earning course credit for her work through a course supervised by Dr. Eileen McMahon.

“This is a chance to get my hands dirty, working closely with the museum’s collections, rummaging through achieves, and setting up exhibits. I cannot express how lucky I am to have this internship that is preparing me for my future,” commented DeRose, who is a senior history major at ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½×îаæÏÂÔØ University with a creative writing minor.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to partner with a local group that is actively giving back to their community. The Lockport Woman’s Club has been a fixture in the community for more than 100 years. This type of internship provides real life experience for DeRose. The program also assists the Will County Historical Society, which the Woman’s Club also has supported,” commented Dr. Dennis H. Cremin, director of the history center.

DeRose plans to enter the field of historic preservation or museum studies. She expressed gratitude toward the people involved in the organization supporting the internship. She said, ““I can't thank the Women’s Club and the Will County Historical Society for this opportunity, they are enabling me to succeed on a professional and personal level.”
