ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½×îаæÏÂÔØ Receives ComEd Smart Ideas Project Grant

Published: July 11, 2012.

ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½×îаæÏÂÔØ University has received a rebate in the amount of $83,400 through the ComEd Smart Ideas for Your Business Program because of ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½×îаæÏÂÔØ University’s upgrade to the Power House, which involved installing energy-efficient new chillers and a cooling tower to provide cooling for the entire main campus.

According to Brother James Gaffney, FSC, President, “The project demonstrates major efficiency and advances the University’s sustainability practices. This “Smart Idea” not only provided $83,400 toward the cost of the project, but it will launch a more efficient cooling system that will benefit both ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½×îаæÏÂÔØ and the environment through the years.”

Brother James also noted that this summer’s record heat has tested the system. “When the work was completed in the Spring, none of us expected that the systems would be tested to such maximum effect as they have lately. The heat and stormy weather has been a considerable physical challenge this year.”

High praise was extended to Robert DeRose, Vice President for Finance and Facilities, and Don Castello, Director of Facilities, for their creative initiative and effective effort in securing the grant from ComEd. Brother James also thanked all others who were involved in the construction and renovations for completing this “Smart Idea” project in time for a record-breaking summer.
