ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½×îаæÏÂÔØ University student leads free Lockport walking tours

ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½×îаæÏÂÔØ University History major Mary Moran will be guiding walking tours as an intern at The Gaylord Building, a site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The free, one-hour tours are scheduled on Thursdays evenings: July 18, August 1 and August 15 and Saturday mornings: June 29, July 13, July 27 and August 10. The tours will focus on the historic preservation efforts in Lockport and the history of the Illinois and Michigan Canal.

“Moran is a junior who has gained hands-on experiences through the Public History track at ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½×îаæÏÂÔØ University. She has emerged as a leader and has been learning a great deal about local history. This is a great opportunity to apply what she has learned” Dennis H. Cremin, professor of history and director of the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½×îаæÏÂÔØ University History Center, said.

Moran added, “I have been learning so much in courses such as the History of Illinois and Public History. I plan to draw on this work and provide insight into the historic preservation and the I&M Canal. I am really looking forward to guiding these tours and working closely with the staff at The Gaylord Building.”
