ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½×îаæÏÂÔØ University presents the Fall 2013 Celebration of the Humanities Series

ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½×îаæÏÂÔØ University presents the Celebration of the Humanities Series during the Fall semester on its Main Campus in Romeoville. The series commemorates important cultural landmarks in such areas as music, art, literature, philosophy, theology and history.

September events in the series include a focus on poetry and music.

As part of the Poetry Week, “Richard Blanco: The Poetry of Place, Home and Identity” will make a presentation at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 9 at St. Charles Borromeo Center. Blanco, the poet who was selected by President Obama to read at his second Inauguration, will present and comment on his work.

Music Week hosts a variety of musical performances and discussion from Sept. 20–Sept. 26.

• ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½×îаæÏÂÔØ University String Quintet performs at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 20 in the Art Gallery
• “The Shock of the New: The Armory Show of 1913” presented by (Dr. Michael Cunningham and Leslie Colonna) at 1 p.m. Sept. 23 in AS-158
• “Riotous Rite: Stravinsky's Rite of Spring at 100” presented by Dr. Larry Sisk will begin at 2 p.m. Sept. 24 in AS-158.
• “Careers in Theology: Beyond the Familiar” presented by Dr. Christie Billups at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 24 in D’Arcy Great Room.
• The Grant Street String Quartet performs at 8 p.m. Sept. 25 in the Sancta Alberta Chapel
• MusicBYTES, a bi-annual concert of electroacoustic music begins at noon Sept. 26.

Other events in the semester include Art Week, Literature Week, Humanities in Action, Foreign Films, Languages, Gallery Talks and presentations.

A Celebration of the Humanities at ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½×îаæÏÂÔØ University is a program sponsored by the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½×îаæÏÂÔØ Unviersity History Center. Dr. Ewa Bacon (History) and Dr. Michael Cunningham (A&I Director, English) have coordinated these presentations.

The Celebration of Humanities is being presented as a part of ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½×îаæÏÂÔØ University’s Arts & Ideas Program, providing cultural and educational programming for students and the community. A portion of the Arts & Ideas events is sponsored by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council.
