I & M Canal artifacts are on display in the Adelmann Regional History Collection

part of the Adelmann Regional History Collection
at ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½×îаæÏÂÔØ University.

The at ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½×îаæÏÂÔØ University now features iconic images, collector plates and 19th century advertisements of the Illinois and Michigan Canal. The artifacts will be displayed on the second floor of the Learning Resource Center until Jan. 31 and available on the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½×îаæÏÂÔØ University Library webpage under Digital Collections within the Gerald W. Adelmann Papers.

Gerald W. Adelmann, president and CEO of Openlands, donated the materials to the collection over the past several years. “I acquired and inherited many documents, photographs and artifacts connected with the history of Lockport and the surrounding region,” said Adelmann. “ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½×îаæÏÂÔØ University seemed like the logical repository for the material, guaranteeing that they would be available to future generations who share my interest in our local heritage.”

“These represent some of the most unique and iconic materials in the collection,” said Dr. Dennis Cremin, professor of and director of the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½×îаæÏÂÔØ University . “The collection depends on the generosity of the larger community. Adelmann also made a donation so that some of the materials could be preserved.”
