Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training Grant (BHWET)

ABOUT

ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½×îаæÏÂÔØ University, College of Education and Social Sciences and College of Nursing and Health Sciences, is the recipient of a Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training Grant (BHWET). The purpose of the grant is to provide support to Master’s in Social Work (MSW) and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) students who are in their final year internship.

The BHWET program provides training and financial support to students who are interested in working in behavioral health, particularly for underserved communities. Students with an interest in working with children, adolescents and transition age youth are particularly encouraged to apply for support.

Why consider becoming a BHWET Grant Recipient?
  • Working with underserved communities in a behavioral health setting is rewarding and aligns with the Mission and values of the University, social work, and nursing professions.
  • Illinois has a high need for mental health clinicians to work with children, adolescents and transition age youth.
  • There are a number of underserved communities in Chicago, Joliet and throughout Illinois in need of behavioral health clinicians.
  • There is financial support in the amount of $10,000.00 for the year.
  • Students participate in additional trainings to support their skill development in inter-professional collaboration and behavioral health services.
  • Students are part of a network of students and professionals with opportunities and trainings throughout the U.S.

Students are enrolled in the BHWET program as a cohort. All cohorts will start in the fall semester. Applications for Fall 2024 are accepted between November 2023 to June 2024. Please contact Dr. Ellen Thursby, thursbel@lewisu.edu, or Dr. Pam Taylor, ptaylor4@lewisu.edu, for more information.
